1992 RAD spotted in The Secret Double Life of Illegal Graffiti Writers | Duality: A Graffiti Story 2026

Recently, Mr. Django aka RAZER of KTD, sent me a link to this video and said “WATCH IT!” It took me a couple of days to get to watch it, and right at the 13:13 mark, I spot it! RAD! Hey! That’s ME! That’s my piece!

My RAD piece from May 6, 1992, painted in Los Angeles, California at the Sunset Yard. What is crazy about this is that is was captured on video by *Dooley-O’s Graff TV BACK THEN! Sorry Graff-TV as I never got to see the 1993 VHS release! Now I have to go digging through the archives and see which GTV’s I have! • That day I was painting with Razer – KTD and I think we were there with Dream of SMD (RIP). Down below is my original clean photo. For a kid that grew up in ALABAMA during ’70/80’s, this is just wild to me! STILL IZ! After all these years!

A perspective on how graffiti has paved the way for many successful artists today. The story is told by the artists themselves on their journey from tagging graffiti on city walls to becoming respected icons in the cities they serve. They have proven that art is something that can influence, create emotion, inspire, and bring culture to an area. As the film progresses you see the difficulties they have endured and public criticism of their work.

Today these murals bring in big advertising dollars from some of the biggest companies. They hire artists to paint murals and design art for campaigns to promote their brands. The murals they produce are nothing short of awe-inspiring from their sheer size to the complexity of the art piece. Their portfolios extend from massive spray painted murals on city walls to fine art gallery showings. The graffiti scene at one point was an underground subculture that has transformed into a legitimate profession. This film offers insights into the struggles and successes of four artists from different cities as they tell how they overcame adversity and legality to where they are today.

Dooley-O (born Allen Jackson) is a legendary hip-hop rapper, producer, and DJ from New Haven, Connecticut. He is best known in hip-hop history for being the first DJ/producer to sample the breakbeat from the obscure 1970s funk band Skull Snaps’ track “It’s a New Day” on his classic 1988 song “Watch My Moves“. He started out in the Hip-Hop scene doing graffiti, breakdancing, and beatboxing before focusing on rapping and DJing. He hosted the public access TV series Graffiti TV and served as an early mentor to Egon (Egon Alperin), who later ran the influential indie label Stones Throw Records. HOPE Outdoor Gallery is an open-air public graffiti and mural art park in Austin, Texas, founded by Andi Scull as part of the HOPE (Helping Other People Everywhere) campaign. HOPE Outdoor Gallery is located at 741 Dalton Lane, near the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. HOPE first opened in 2011 at a former condo development site on Castle Hill (Baylor Street) in downtown Austin, becoming a major cultural landmark before closing that site in 2019.
