R1 Urban Camo Test No.1 Kudzu, Test No.2 Reverse Bright, and Test No.3 DayGlo Tokyo

The R1 Urban Camo canvas was almost finished (see it at the bottom of the blog post “My intrigue with camouflage“); while the paint was drying, I pulled up three blank 11″ x 14” canvases, mounted them on the wall, and started these experimental camouflage textures as my hand was ready to explore the unknown. I always have images and ideas in my head, and I have learned to let that be a “guide towards” and not the “absolute destination.”

I’ve named this three-piece canvas exploratory series: R1 Urban Camo Test No.1 Kudzu, Test No.2 Reverse Bright, and Test No.3 DayGlo Tokyo.

I wanted to develop a new pattern and color scheme for another large canvas, so I did these to test patterns and non-traditional camo colors. My personal favorite from this test series is the middle canvas, “Test #2 Reverse Bright,” and I would very much like to keep these three canvases together as a set. While this is not a traditional camouflage pattern, my experimental design was created with spray paint for visual wall-hanging purposes. If you have never hung acrylic spray paint art in your living space and worried about the smell, don’t worry! Typically, after a couple of days of drying time in my studio, the acrylic aerosol paint dries very hard and does not have the strong odor associated with acrylic aerosol paints. Then, the canvas makes its way up into my art gallery living room!
