Critical Letter Construction / RAD1visuals R1-1024

This original art work is called “CriticalLetterConstruction” and was completed on October 13th, 2024, on an 8″ x 8″ “hard-board” canvas using acrylic aerosol spray paint and a Posca paint marker. These pieces take time, as the work was started on October 4th, with the layers of spray paint first applied to the canvas as a base layer.

I like to give the paint a good 24 hours to dry before working on the surface, but jumping around between different works took a while because I was juggling back to it. The painted canvas sat on my desk for a few days. I did not have an initial sketch or real idea of what I would do.

I start with one letter and let the rest flow out. The letters “R” and “A ” are at the top right of the canvas. Before, the “R-A” was the letter “D,” but it is oriented on a different plane. While this was finished in one evening, it started after coming home from work, sitting down, and doing this part. From here, I got up and walked away for a while. I may have had dinner and come back and completed the rest. It’s a process.
