Cosmo In Flight: The Canvas After the Emptiness
The life of an artist is often a fascinating paradox: balancing the demands of a “real job” with the quiet, sometimes challenging, call of the blank canvas. For days, even weeks, those white spaces can sit, waiting. It’s a process of coaxing creativity, a dance many artists know well – perhaps even a bit of “artist procrastination.” But for me, Rodney “RAD1” Wills, that creative spark ignited with a return home…
After spending weeks preparing for and then dropping off all my art for my first gallery show in 42 years (at Shutter and Strum’s Disruptor Gallery in Colorado Springs), and the same day visiting Platte Furniture’s downstairs mega-basement gallery, having some inspiring conversations with those folks, but with the return home, the walls felt… empty. It was a good kind of empty, a space ready for something new.
That something new became Cosmo In Flight. This piece emerged almost instantly in my basement studio. While the physical painting was finished in a single day, it represents a culmination of ideas that have been developing for a long time.
